First Bridge Park
Located in Downtown Minneapolis under the Hennepin Avenue suspension bridge, First Bridge Park celebrates the location of the first U.S. bridge to cross the Mississippi River in 1855. The current bridge is the 4th bridge at this historic site. A dig uncovered footings from the first two bridges, and interprets them for visitors.
Trails for bikes and pedestrians flow along the river’s edge. Seating is provided by a serpentine wall of concrete that parallels the river. Bronze creatures by Maxcast lend character to the park, including a game to locate all 13 bronze earthworms.
